Summer Institute 2025

Summer Institute June 9 - 10, 2025

Educators from around Kentucky participated in two days of in-person professional learning and networking in Owensboro!  

Keynote Speakers--Summer 2025

Summer Institute June 9 - 10, 2025

Author and Seidlitz Education consultant, Dr. Carol Salva, will be sharing from her research on supporting the persistence of SLIFE, or students with limited or interrupted formal education.

Dr. Salva is an author and leading expert on supporting students with interrupted formal schooling.  She has proven success with newcomers and has experience teaching elementary, middle and high school.


Valentina Gonzalez is a doctoral student, author, and educator with over 25 years of experience in various roles, including classroom teacher, district facilitator, professional development specialist, and consultant. Her childhood experience as an immigrant and language learner fuels her desire to advocate for multilingual students and support teachers with the best research-based teaching methods. Valentina is dedicated to promoting literacy, celebrating culture, and nurturing language development and travels the nation working alongside educators to do so. 

MTSS & Special Education Strand--June 9, 2025

 Dr. Alba Ortiz, Professor Emeritus in the Department or Special Education at the University of Texas at Austin, is one of the nation's leading experts in MTSS and  special education for English Learners (ELs).  Dr. Ortiz has authored and co-authored many books and articles that address appropriate intervention systems for ELs, referral systems, and conducting culturally and linguistically responsive assessments to differentiate cultural and language differences from disability.  Dr. Ortiz will be the keynote speaker and facilitator for the MTSS/Special Education strand on Monday, June 9.

Summer Institute--June 4 - 5, 2024

We had a great virtual institute!  Participants discovered innovative approaches for language instruction, cultivated a deeper understanding of cultural nuances, and forged connections with fellow educators from around the state. Together, we are shaping brighter futures for all learners!
