The purpose of the Kentucky Coalition for English Learners shall be to provide networking, professional learning and advocating opportunities to improve the learning experiences for English Learners.

We are very pleased to announce that KyCEL will offer weekly training modules throughout the summer months. Each will occur on Tuesday mornings at 9 AM CST / 10 AM EST and will last for approximately one hour. The trainings will be conducted via Zoom and will begin on June 16 and continue on June 23, June 30, July 7, July 14, July 21 and July 28.
We are excited to report that the Keynote Presenters who were scheduled to come to the KyCEL Summer Institute, Dr. Margaret Heritage and Dr. Alba Ortiz, have agreed to participate in our Summer Learning Series. Margaret Heritage's presentation will focus on formative assessment and English Learners, and Dr. Ortiz will address struggling English Learners and ways to determine if the student may have a disability.
Dr. Heritage has agreed to kick off the Summer Learning Series on June 16th. Please don't miss the opportunity to hear an internationally known expert discuss formative assessment.
Additionally, Haiwen Chu from Quality Teaching for English Learners (QTEL) will discuss providing quality learning opportunities for English Learners in math instruction.
Other presenters are being finalized and a schedule will be available soon. Please plan to spend an hour with on your Tuesday mornings this summer!
